Stop £ Go

This blog loves to promote exciting, fulfilling and consensual sex lives for all..

A thought popped in my head (doesn’t happen too often) about how many phrases and words

are used out there - I’m still learning new ones regularly!

So today, let's have a chat about the ‘Traffic Light System.’

Mainly used in BDSM, but not exclusively, it is a form of verbal communication to represent

comfort levels, the need to slow down or STOP.

It allows all people present to ensure boundaries and safety are followed when taking part in

sexual activities, especially when there is dominance and submission in play.

The submissive partner(s) use the words below to ensure the play is safe:

  • Green - This means go, continue, I am fine

  • Yellow/Amber - This means slow down,proceed with caution

  • Red - This means Stop

Before taking part, all involved must agree on boundaries, consent and safe words and adhere

to them. This is non-negotiable and promotes respect and enjoyment.

Some people may have limited mobility, sensory loss and/or unable to communicate verbally so it is necessary to discuss and agree alternatives to safe words.

Hand movements are one way for the Sub to make clear how the playing is going. Agreed hand

signs must be made before participating and the Dom must look out for these and follow

Immediately.

A bell or buzzer is another way to communicate and should be placed where the Sub can easily

set it off (for example, to sit, kneel on or set it off with feet)

Follow these steps with respect, respond appropriately with no hesitation or negotiation and this

could be an emotionally and physically pleasurable experience.

Please remember aftercare, cuddle, chat and rehydrate.

Get ready, get set.. Go!
