She was so excited, buying her first car, a pale blue Fiat Uno, this meant more freedom than
ever before! Daniela had hoovered, polished and scrubbed the inside of ‘Blue’ (not an original name but it suits the little cutie pie car) till beads of sweat had ran down her forehead, glistening in the warmth of an early summer morning
She looked up and smiled to herself, the sun was as bright as a button, the puffs of cotton wool clouds drifted elegantly as if there wasn’t a care in the world. A young mother was rushing by with two toddlers and a large frown, Dani smiled, the young mother just glared, raised her eyebrows and scuttled off with the youngster almost lifting them off of the ground with the speed she was pacing!
The children stared at Dani, she beamed at them and waved, in unison the cheeky pair poked their tongues out at her and then in a flurry were gone. Dani was now over the moon that her car was now looking fabulous, sparking clean and smelled like new.
Hmmmmm shower and dress ready for a chilled out drive to grab a coffee and find somewhere quiet to read her new book (given to her by the girls last Wednesday at their regular catch-up date) probably a read about romance, couples, idyllic sex lives and the perfect partner! Dani muttered ‘yeh right’ shook her petite shoulders then took a deep breath and ran up thesteps to her front door 2 steps at a time. 20 minutes later she was dressed in her comfy pumps, pink cotton dungaree shorts a sparkly cardigan and sunglasses. An iced latte was what she had decided on after perusing the menu. Waiting patiently for someone anyone to serve her then she noticed the big wooden door was opening, with a definite creaking sound, the doorframe almost wishing it didn’t have to open up and in walked....... Caleb! His hair looking darker than ever before tied in a man bun, a grey Nike vest and a bright white apron (all of which showed his perfectly crafted tanned arms and face. His eyes met hers and flickered, ever so slightly, almost like he had to take a second glance to make sure he’d seen her, then he smiled, sexy little laughter lines appeared on his handsome chiselled face.
Danika was pleasantly surprised and felt her face flush, just a little, as she checked out his features, her stomach did a flip, almost butterflies she thought, obviously pleased at the sight of him after several very brief encounters last week at work.... mainly consisting of Hi’ ‘hellooooo’ ‘take care’ ‘busy again’ the normal flippant comments made between busy individuals. When their eyes met both smiling ‘Oh wow Dani it’s you’ came from Caleb’s lips sounding surprised but definitely pleased.
Dani was a little embarrassed at the thoughts she had rushing through her brain at a million miles an hour, she then composed herself. Why was Caleb here? Why working in a coffee shop? Why on a Sunday? Long story short he had inherited the coffee hut from his brother who had emigrated to New Zealand a little more than a year ago and Caleb loved catering for the coffee connoisseurs or as he joked ‘snobs’ every weekend to save money to be able to afford a bigger flat than what he currently rented. The iced latte was delicious and as she payed and turned to walk off, Caleb promptly asked if she was around for a while would she consider lunch in a bit. There was a secluded area with a solid wooden table and a couple of benches not far from where she had parked her car, he would supply food and see her in about an hour or so?
Again she felt flustered and a little taken aback, she smiled and muttered something like ‘Yeh cool great thanks lovely’ and off she went, genuinely unsure why Caleb had this effect on her, pleasing but confusing none the less. To be fair it was a mixture of disbelief and excitement! Anyway she found the little spot with the wooden furniture, took off her sunglasses and dungarees, pleased she had put on Bridget Jones pants and a sports bra, although not ashamed of her naked body, sometimes self conscious of the stretch marks slowly appearing and of course the cellulite, that in fact 99.9%of the people she knew, had either or both! She hadn’t decided where she was off to this morning, so dressing for comfort was a must. She lay down on the green grass and dried moss, surprisingly comforting, inhaling the scent of trees and summer flowers, watching the odd ladybird or butterflies whizz by looking for the next juicy flower to drink from or in the case of the ladybird, any plump aphid’s to gobble up! She was feeling good no great, relaxed not a care in the world.
Then she felt one of those annoying tickles on her face, specifically nose, she lazily raised a hand to swat away whatever was inconveniencing her.....there was a deep chuckle close very close! Dani’s eyes snapped open and literally a few inches from her face was Caleb kneeling with one of those long fluffy grassy stems trying to tickle her face!

Dani grabbed her cardigan and fumbled trying to get it on in a cool grown up way rather than how she was feeling(naughty teenager caught drinking parents vodka). She tried so hard to act composed and grown up! Caleb amusingly continued to chuckle, pretending to hide his mouth to muffle this. Within a few seconds she sat up and apologised shyly. He was now laying back on the grass chewing the said piece of long tickling stick thing...he gently touched her forearm “I’ve got drinks and goodies as promised”
Being cool, calm and collected made her feel relaxed and they both made eye contact. Well there were two bottles of iced water inside! Caleb gulped and realised he was so eager to meet her that the prepared lunch was in fact still on the shelf in the hut. She laughed, he laughed they laughed so much that tears ran down their faces, almost choking them, real belly laughter!
They both finally agreed that on a beautiful day like today that a bottle of ice cold water was theperfect lunch substitute and both would enjoy eating out later........
