Introducing Impact Play
What is Impact Play?
Well, the easy answer is that it’s a form of BDSM that either one or all parties involved get sexual gratification by striking an individual frequently.
For it to work effectively it’s so important to follow some simple rules:
Consent, communication and boundaries need to be discussed and agreed before participating.
We must minimise the risk of injury with maximum enjoyment and to do this we need to do our
research.
Be aware of our bodies - There are zones to be avoided.. All joints; the head, kidneys, neck, spine and coccyx (tailbone).
I know this may sound boring, but we all need to agree on safe words or safe signs (used if any
participants are unable to talk.) The most popular and enjoyable areas are often the buttocks and just below the shoulder blade, as they are protected by fat and muscle.
Negotiate which toys are going to be used and how they will be used.
There are so many different toys on the market and be aware that they all have differing
sensations and will leave different marks on our bodies depending on how they are used and what they are made of. Some examples include: faux leather, plastic, wood and silicone (often with studs spikes feathers and gems on!) Why not visit our stores to test different sensations aginst your palm, to avoid disappointment and really find out what you like?
The hand is very commonly used for spanking as it’s easy to control. Start gently and work up to
the intensity desired.
Canes whips and floggers give a stinging sensation and if not used cautiously can easily draw
Blood.
Paddles have more of a ‘thuddy’ feeling (described as dull impact.)
Always remember aftercare-when the play session has ended take time to relax, chat, cuddle and hydrate. Pillow talk enhances sexual and emotional connections!
Now some facts..
In the 2nd century the famous Karma Sutra has references to spanking and slapping as sexual practices (wow, a long time ago!)
In the 18th century a French writer called The Maquis d Sade wrote detailed novels about impact play and sadomasochistic acts, the word “sadism” derives from this man. (Oh, and he was put in an insane asylum for his pornographic novels and actually died there too!)
In the 19th century there was a very exclusive flagellation brothel in london ran by dominatrix called Theresa Berkeley. She earned her fortune by charging aristocrats for her services. Allegedly, she always had a vase of fresh stinging nettles to use daily on her clients!
In the 20th century, after WW2, BDSM became more recognised due to the leather subculture who wore (and still do) a style of dress to distinguish themselves from mainstream sexual cultures.
And now the 21st century has made Impact Play increasingly popular due to media art and social platforms, slowly progressing in our openness to diverse sexual practices and cultural acceptance.
Go ahead and experiment!
Enjoy and play safe, Pleasure Seekers. ♥️
